Porto: Portugal's second largest city is an ideal starting point for your Portugal family holiday. Explore the picturesque old town and winding river banks by bike, and stay in a family friendly apartment.

Sleeping under the stars is a magical experience for most kids of all ages (and adults too!) Immerse yourself in nature in the heart of the Alentejo region on this bite-sized trip. Spend your days kayaking and canyoning, then bed down in a glamping tent on the banks of a river.

Time to experience another side of Portugal, away from the coastline and cities. The Peneda-Gerês national park is a picturesque green region of mountains, waterfalls and hidden hamlets. It’s only 1.5 hours from Porto but is off the main tourist trail.

Peniche is a small fishing town, known for its long sandy beaches and ideal surfing conditions. Small bays with small waves for little surfers and challenging waves for older or more experienced surfers.

The west coast of the Algarve is known for its natural beauty. The rugged cliff coastline, the clear blue sea and the favourable temperature attract many tourists every year. This side of the Algarve also benefits from a cooling breeze from the Atlantic Ocean.

Lisbon, the capital of Portugal, is known for its yellow trams and picturesque streets. You'll explore the city on a walking tour with a local, who will take you to the less touristy areas, and stay in a centrally located, family friendly apartment.

The Costa Vicentina is located between Lisbon and the Algarve and is known for its rugged cliff coasts with wide sandy beaches. Mass tourism? You won't find that here. Your base for the next few days is the small town of Vila Nova de Milfontes. It’s a picturesque, laid-back place with fantastic beaches nearby.

Tavira is the quietest part of the Algarve – the eastern region - towards the Spanish border. There are no rugged cliff coasts here, just wide sandy beaches, clear seas and a unique nature reserve: the Ria Formosa Natural Park. Time to relax and enjoy some family time.

There is a lot to experience on the Silver Coast in central Portugal. Lisbon is only one hour drive away; you can easily visit the castles of Obidos and Sintra from here, and of course there is also the beach. Time for some family R&R.
