The colourful Town Route of Cinque Terre has made this area a must-visit spot on any trip to Italy. As you walk from village to village over rugged cliffs along the former mule track, beautiful towns appear full of brightly coloured building set against the turquoise water of the Ligurian Sea.
The town of Bolzano is nestled in the middle of the mountains and is a place where Italian and Austrian cultures come together. Here you can take in the sweeping views over the Dolomites from the cable car and hike on the largest mountain meadow in Europe, the Alpe di Sius.
Venice is the perfect place to step back in time and lose yourself in a different world, wandering the small alleys between the canals of Venice and discover small squares and quiet parts of the city.
Most holidaymakers visit the west side of Lake Como, but the east side is just as beautiful and less touristy. Discover the quieter side of Como on foot and by train as you follow the ancient smugglers’ trail – Sentiero del Viandante.
Lake Garda has more to offer than meets the eye, even if the colourful harbour, narrow streets and old town seems like more than enough at first sight. Get active hitting the water on a boat or surfboard, or stay on dry land, walking or cycling past impressive rock formations.
Be surprised by Piedmont; the region of truffles, full-bodied red wines and rolling vineyards. It is a lesser visited part of Italy, but what it lacks in other tourists, it certainly makes up for in refined cuisine and warm hospitality.
